Bahraini Registration Plates

Bahraini vehicle registration plates are instantly recognisable by their clean blue-on-white design, featuring the Flag of Bahrain alongside the country’s name in both Arabic and Latin script. The current format has been in use since 2010, and the international code for Bahrain is BRN.

Unlike many countries, Bahraini plates use a purely numeric format — no letters, just numbers. Low numbers carry significant prestige and are actively traded as status symbols, with the most desirable combinations fetching high prices.

Beyond standard private plates, Bahrain issues a variety of special categories: diplomatic plates carry a coloured bar in place of the national flag, while separate series exist for military vehicles, public transport, the Royal Family, and even Formula 1 events. Export plates are issued when a vehicle is being permanently taken out of the country, requiring the owner to surrender their registration and obtain temporary documentation valid for the journey abroad.
