Dragons are rare in flag design, which makes the ones that do appear stand out. Among sovereign nations, Bhutan is really the only example: its flag features Druk, the Thunder Dragon, a figure drawn from Bhutanese mythology and Buddhist symbolism that also gives the country its own name, Druk Yul, “Land of the Thunder Dragon.”
