AirAsia X has cancelled the planned launch of its long-awaited Kuala Lumpur – Bahrain – London Gatwick route, which was originally scheduled to begin on 27 August 2026.
The airline has removed the service from its reservation system, and tickets are no longer available for booking. At this stage, AirAsia X has not announced a new launch date, leaving the future of the route uncertain.
The service was expected to operate four times per week initially, before increasing to daily flights from 1 November 2026. The route would have been operated by the airline’s Airbus A330-300 fleet and included a stop in Bahrain, giving travellers an additional low-cost connection between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.
The cancellation is a disappointment for passengers looking for more affordable long-haul options between the three regions. It also highlights the challenges airlines continue to face when launching new international routes, where demand, operational planning, and regulatory approvals can all influence final decisions.
For now, AirAsia X has not provided a reason for the cancellation or indicated whether the route will return at a later date.

Had the service launched as planned, it would have expanded AirAsia X’s long-haul network while offering another budget-friendly link between Malaysia, Bahrain, and London.
