This week, British traveller Victoria completed an extraordinary journey across Iraq by reaching Maysan, the final province in her quest to visit all 19 provinces of Iraq.
Throughout her travels, Victoria Horsley often repeated the phrase “I’m just a girl” — a line that became a memorable part of her adventures across the country.
From the mountainous north to Baghdad, the ancient cities of Mesopotamia, the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, the vast deserts and finally Maysan in the southeast, she has experienced Iraq far beyond the usual tourist routes.
Her journey shows another side of Iraq — beyond the headlines: thousands of years of history, diverse communities, extraordinary landscapes, incredible food and legendary Iraqi hospitality.
